  • Beta HCG

    Order Test Online

This is a blood test used to confirm pregnancy.
This is a quantitative blood test that measures the exact amount of hCG in the blood

    Beta hCG Test

    Cost Rs. 550/-

Why should you get a blood test done to confirm pregnancy?

    1. It can detect a pregnancy earlier than a urine test at about 7-12 days from possible conception (but if a negative result is received, a test should be repeated if a period is missed.)
    2. It can measure the concentration of hCG hormone in your blood
    3. The quantitative beta hCG blood test is more accurate than a urine pregnancy test
    4. If you have a history of a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, it is better to monitor your hCG levels with a blood test.
    5. In the early days of pregnancy, hCG levels double every 48-72 hours. If hCG levels do not rise appropriately in those very early days, it can signal a problem with the pregnancy. By monitoring your exact hCG levels with regular quantitative blood test, problems can be detected well in advance.

What are the beta hCG levels during pregnancy?

The following is a list of blood hCG levels achieved as pregnancy advances (LMP means last menstrual period):

    • 3 weeks since LMP: 5 – 50 mIU/ml
    • 4 weeks since LMP: 5 – 426 mIU/ml
    • 5 weeks since LMP: 18 – 7,340 mIU/ml
    • 6 weeks since LMP: 1,080 – 56,500 mIU/ml
    • 7 – 8 weeks since LMP: 7,650 – 229,000 mIU/ml
    • 9 – 12 weeks since LMP: 25,700 – 288,000 mIU/ml
    • 13 – 16 weeks since LMP: 13,300 – 254,000 mIU/ml
    • 17 – 24 weeks since LMP: 4,060 – 165,400 mIU/ml
    • 25 – 40 weeks since LMP: 3,640 – 117,000 mIU/ml

These levels differ slightly from one laboratory to the other according to the test kits and methodology and machines that are used for testing. What is important is the levels double every day. So what the gynaecologist looks for is a rising titre of beta hCG levels to confirm that you are having a healthy pregnancy.
