  • Uric Acid

    Order Test Online

The production of uric acid happens in our body naturally when we consume food containing purines and when the body breaks down the cells in the body. Most of the uric acid is dissolved in the blood which is then filtered through the kidneys and excreted through urine. However, certain health conditions can produce excessive uric acid or might prevent the filtration of the uric acid.

    Cost Rs. 200/-

Why is the uric acid test done?

To monitor and diagnose individuals suffering from gout, kidney stones and kidney disorders and even to monitor chemotherapy and radiation treatment. It is also done to evaluate the performance of the kidney after an injury.

How to prepare for the test?

Medicines like ibuprofen and aspirin can interfere with uric acid blood test results. Additionally, you must not consume alcohol or take large amounts of Vitamin C before the test.

    What do the results indicate?

The normal value ranges from lab to lab and therefore you must let your doctor evaluate your overall health condition. Also, the uric acid blood test alone is not sufficient to provide a clear picture of your health and therefore your doctor will order you more tests along with it.

Below is the chart that provides the normal value range
    Men 3.4 – 7.0 mg/dL 202 – 416 mcmol/L
    Women 2.4 – 6.0 mg/dL 143 -357 mcmol/L
    Children 2.0 – 5.5 mg/dL 119 – 327 mcmol/L

Higher values indicate health conditions like kidney disease, leukaemia, lymphoma, heart failure, cirrhosis, obesity, starvation, malnutrition, high purines food consumption. Lower values indicate liver disease, lack of protein, and some type of cancer.
