Hypertension is a term to describe high blood pressure. After confirmation that you have high blood pressure your doctor will perform a physical examination and take your medical history. You may also need to get blood tests done to find out whether the high blood pressure has damaged any organs or caused other problems like kidney disease, diabetes, electrolyte imbalance, heart disease etc. These tests may include:
- Urine Routine
- Glucose – F
- Na, K, Cl,(electrolytes)
In addition to the above, the following tests may be carried out also.
An electrocardiogram (ECG) to find out whether there is any damage to the heart.
Ultrasound of the kidneys if recommended by your doctor.
An eye checkup is also required with a retinal specialist.
